Women who changed history

March is Women's History month and what better way to honor women than to remember five women that helped to change the history.



The list of women who have changed history is immensely long, from inventors to scientists and professors. Choosing just five was a difficult task as all of the women were pioneers in their field and continue to be an inspiration to us all.



They paved the way and gave courage to all women to pursue their goals, dreams and visions.




1 - Marie Curie

  • First female professor at the University of Paris

  • First person to win a second Nobel prize

  • Founded the new science of radioactivity including the word itself

  • First woman to be nominated for a Nobel prize





2 - Margaret Knight

  • Invented her first useful device at the age of 12

  • Registered 24 patents for industrial machines including paper-grab manufacturing, shoe manufacturing and rotary engines.

  • Invented the machine that folds and glues bottom paper bags


3 - Ada Lovelace

  • The first computer programmer

  • The first person to theorize a method for the engine to repeat a series of instruction aka looping

4 - Sally Ride

  • The first women astronaut to fly in space

  • Co founded a science education organization to ignite students enthusiasm for science.

5 - Maria Mitchell

  • The first female professional astronomer

  • First American to discover a comet

  • First woman elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
